LIANG WEN-CHONG SECURES CHINA’S REPRESENTATION AT THE ROYAL TROPHY

Liang Wen-chong has secured China’s representation in Asia’s defense to Colin Montgomerie’s European challenge at the fourth edition of the Royal Trophy. The nomination of the People’s Republic’s top golfer for the Asian Team constitutes the seventh player appointment in Asian Captain Naomichi ‘Joe’ Ozaki’s construction of a powerful golf battalion to confront the Continent’s most difficult undertaking to date in the sport – defeating Ryder Cup Captain Colin Montgomerie’s European Team and retaining stewardship of the Royal Trophy.

Thirty-one year old Liang is the first Chinese player to win the Asian Tour Order of Merit and the winner of nine professional career titles, holds the 18-hole Asian Tour record – with a stunning 12-under-par 60 recorded at the Indian Open and has honorably represented China in the World Cup of Golf.

Bourdy wins in Hong Kong; McIlroy takes money lead

HONG KONG – France’s Gregory Bourdy survived a late challenge from Rory McIlroy to win the Hong Kong Open by two strokes and secure a berth at the European Tour’s year-end championship in Dubai.

Bourdy had four birdies and a bogey in a 3-under 67 that gave him a 19-under 261 total and his third European Tour title. The win moved the Frenchman into the top 60 on the money list, qualifying him for Dubai.

COLIN MONTGOMERIE TO REIGN OVER EUROPE AT THE ROYAL TROPHY

Colin Montgomerie has been appointed European Team Captain for the fourth edition of the Royal Trophy to take place in Chonburi, Thailand on 8-10 January 2010. The eight-time Ryder Cup player for Europe has accepted the position after speaking with the legendary five-time Major winner Severiano Ballesteros who had previously planned to lead the European effort himself.

"Seve has invited me to captain Europe at the Royal Trophy and I am delighted to accept;" said the eight-time European Tour Order of Merit winner Montgomerie.

"It will be an excellent opportunity for me to spend time with some key players who are likely to be with me at Celtic Manor in October for the Ryder Cup;" added the current European Ryder Cup Captain.
